Dear Ocean Shore Families, Happy Friday and Happy Spring Break! I wish you an enjoyable week off from school spending time with family or friends. This morning we were dancing at recess in anticipation of spring break! I asked some students what they are planning to do for the break. Here were some of their responses: “We are going back to Legoland!” “Sleeping.” “I am going bowling with my parents!” “We are moving to a new house!” "My cousins live in Sacramento so I am going to see them." “We are going to Seattle!" “My sister has to look at colleges. So I have to go with.” "I just want to play with my dog." (This was the response from the principal... :) Reflections from my Office: This week was full of events such as the POD day on Wednesday. On Wednesday, I was joined by 6th grader Roan Taylor-Dion to help “run” the school. He was the student who won the “Student Principal of the Day” from the PTO auction fundraiser. He was a very effective leader and made “tough decisions” such as how to make sure every grade level earned equal amounts of the “bonus” 5 minute recess time he granted the students. He assumed his leadership role in stride, and even had time to write encouragement notes to each teacher. Positive feedback is important to share when leading a team! Yet again, this experience was another reminder of how Ocean Shore students shine in leadership roles. When given the opportunity, they lead with grace, poise, integrity, fair-mindedness and respect. I feel that this is something current world leaders could learn from our kids! Here is a picture of Roan as he led the school on Wednesday! Staff Makin’ Waves:
Last week, our staff gathered at my house for a “housewarming gathering” as I recently moved to Half Moon Bay. It was such a special event to have all of our staff on my backyard. I was so humbled by the lovely potted plant they brought me. Virginia, gifted with a green thumb, put together this beautiful pot on behalf of the staff. It now sits on my patio as a reminder of our special team of educators at Ocean Shore. This was a lovely gesture from them, and I feel very fortunate to serve our community alongside of them!
