Dear Ocean Shore Families, Hello! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving break with you family! Thank you for your warm wishes as I celebrated my wedding and we spent Thanksgiving in the Caribbean for our honeymoon. We had such a wonderful time exploring different islands and soaking up the sun! The wedding was so special to be with our family and friends. My golden retriever Bea” made the perfect ‘Dog of Honor’ despite rolling around on the grass during the reception! This was a fun week with lots of festivities underway. At our POD day this week, the students and staff were busy preparing for Winter Bazaar next week! December is a busy and productive month. Our staff lounge has been transformed with anticipation of the Winter Bazaar on Thursday next week. For our new families, Winter Bazaar is a treasured celebration at our school. I look forward to seeing you there! Invite your families and neighbors as our whole community is invited! Take a look at the details below (a beautiful poster created by our own 2nd grade teacher, Juli!). We would love any support from our parents to help volunteer! Sign-Up on the poster in the main hallway! Reflections From My Office: Have you noticed the new mural? It is hard to miss the work underway on our neighbor’s wall – ACE Hardware. It has been pretty exciting to see it take shape, especially since the mural will feature silhouettes of young children – representing the partnership between our school and our community like ACE Hardware. The new store manager has had an active interest in our school and is always looking for ways to help us out! This project is an example of his vision to be a strong partner for the neighborhood and our kids. I met with him and the artist this week as we discuss plans for the completion of the mural. I thought the story of how the store has come under his leadership and the idea behind the mural was quite meaningful, and asked him to share it with you! Here are a few thoughts from Drew, the Store Manager: “Pacific Manor Ace is a small, homegrown co-op filled with people that love what they do and love to be a part of the neighborhood they serve. So some may have noticed some interesting...and colorful things happening recently in the parking lot. Michael Koller, a local Pacifica artist, is doing a wonderful Hardware/Ocean/School themed mural on the side of our building in a parking lot we're all very familiar with. The owners and myself sat down a year ago when I took over as store manager and asked ourselves how we could give back to the community and how we could be an example of a good neighbor. Though I'm not originally from Pacifica or the Bay Area for that matter this neighborhood has quickly become one near and dear to my heart. It reminds me a lot of the small one traffic light community that I grew up in. One of the things I loved about my hometown and community was its passion for art and the number of quirky murals it has strewn throughout the city. If you haven't stopped by the store recently and if you're not on a first name basis with the staff, stop by for a visit we'd love to meet you. P.S. We love dogs." The artist plans to include a few students in the mural design. Students will be randomly selected to be photographed which the artist will use as a reference to design the silhouette of children. If your child is selected, we will let you know! There will also be a fun event to dedicate the mural once it is complete in January. Stay tuned for more details! From the Front Office: Concert Attire Clothing Available For Students! This time of year, many students are encouraged to wear formal attire for concerts and performances. This can be an extra financial burden for families. If your family would like assistance in getting a special outfit for your child, please let us know. Feel free to contact Julie or Seva, or stop by the office. If your family has extra children's formal clothing available to donate, we will take your donations for others to use. For example, middle school students are encouraged to wear wear black dress pants, a collared shirt, and black dress shoes. Let us know if you have gently used items you would like to donate! The Winter Bazaar is Coming and We Could Use Your Help! The staff is looking for a few parent volunteers to help on the day of the Winter Bazaar (Thursday, December 12th!). Please visit the poster on the bulletin board in the main hallway to sign up if you can help us out! Important Information for Families Registering a Sibling Into Ocean Shore Next year!
